As the year comes to a close, we're spending Employee Learning Week focused on the people at the center of talent development: how we connect, manage pressure, create psychological safety, and build workplaces where people can thrive.
Join Ann Arbor ATD for Human Skills at Work, a three-part virtual series exploring the person- and people-centered capabilities that shape how we learn, collaborate, lead, and support one another at work.
Attend one session or join us for all three as we move through a simple progression:
CONNECT → RESET → THRIVE
How we relate to one another → how we manage ourselves → how we create healthier workplaces.
Series Schedule
Tuesday, December 8: CONNECT
The Science of Play: How Play Shapes Learning, Collaboration, and Psychological Safety
Alexandra Suchman
How trust, play, and psychological safety affect collaboration and learning.
Description:
In fast-paced, high-pressure workplaces, open communication, trust, and psychological safety can easily suffer. This interactive session explores how evidence-based play can create space for people to express themselves, take risks, work together more effectively, and strengthen collaboration.
Participants will explore the science behind play and its role in learning and psychological safety, experience practical play-based approaches, and leave with ideas they can apply to their own teams and learning environments.
Wednesday, December 9: RESET
The 90-Second Reset: Emotional Fitness for Modern Leadership
Sam Kabert
How leaders can regulate stress and respond more intentionally under pressure.
Description:
Stress affects how we communicate, make decisions, lead, and perform. This session introduces Emotional Fitness as a practical leadership skill and gives participants a repeatable 90-second reset they can use when pressure rises.
Participants will explore simple, evidence-informed techniques for interrupting stress responses in real time and learn how emotional regulation can support clearer thinking, healthier communication, resilience, and leadership performance.
Thursday, December 10: THRIVE
Mental Health, Real Impact: How Supporting Employees Saves More Than Just Stress
Dianne Acuña Andree
How healthier workplace practices support people and organizational performance.
Proposed session description:
Employee well-being is closely connected to engagement, productivity, retention, and organizational success. This interactive session explores how chronic stress and burnout affect employees and what leaders and talent development professionals can do to support healthier workplaces.
Participants will leave with practical strategies for recognizing burnout, strengthening resilience and psychological safety, and supporting employee well-being while strengthening collaboration and performance.
